Early Anchorage yard
This was taken from Government hill looking down across Ship Creek toward the future downtown Anchorage site. The long buildings with tarps in the foreground are the stables. The tall two story building is the office of the Alaska Engineering Commission. The large meander in Ship Creek was long ago diverted and filled. The present day Anchorage Depot would be about where the spindly tree bisects the photo vertically. This is very early in the site development. - Commentary by Pat Durand
