Photographer Gene Adoline was an enlisted man in the Army at Ft. Richardson
in 1954. Of his photograph, he recalls, "This is the type of engine
we use in the M.R.S. It is shown here idling at the Ft Richardson
Yard. Notice the covering over the Radiator(s) which was needed to
keep the engine at operating temperatures. Immediately in front of
the Engineer's forward window sat an oil fired heater which is needed to
keep engine warm. On a cold day you did not want them to freeze up or it
would be Court Martial Time."
