On a frozen frigid winters afternoon, although the skies are clear, the sun will not rise high enough to clear the mountains and illuminate this scene. Regardless, it would provide little warmth to overcome the negative 36 degrees that I was experiencing at this particular moment. After spending some time clearing the mainline north of Cantwell, Alaska Railroad’s snow fleet has returned to Cantwell where they will put some finishing touches on the siding before continuing south to clear the sidings at Broad Pass, Colorado, Honolulu and Hurricane before calling it a day.
