Black And Gold Beauties Just a simple portrait of some of the prettiest geeps to be found anywhere in my opinion. ARR GP40-2s 3001 and 3006 built new for the Alaska Railroad in April 1975 still wear their as delivered black and yellow scheme as they work the north end of the Anchorage yard. As of this writing nearly 14 years later they remain two of three (along with 3003) still dressed in this paint out of a total of 11 similar units originally delivered this way (the first two orders). They are coupled to a short train of company service equipment including the mobile rail welding plant (the flat car with the peaked roof on it) that they are getting ready to take out to Birchwood yard. Beyond can be seen the high rise Hilton Hotel downtown on this snowy second day of spring. Anchorage, Alaska |
