The Port of Juneau is a touristy shopping spree with jewelry stores, souvenir and craft shops, restaurants and boutiques. I am not a "shop till you drop" kinda guy so shore excursions are a great escape. A bus whisked us away to a "Southeast Alaska rain forest" where Alaskan-caught wild salmon was grilled over an open wood fire. The all-you-can-eat buffet included salad, beans, corn bread, rice, drinks, dessert and......salmon. Now I dislike salmon, but I figured I'd roll with them theme and force it down. What's this? It's delicious! It had some brown sugar syrup thing going on and I actually went for seconds. To add to the festive atmosphere there was a pretty darn good local musician belting out some easily listening tunes. The guys actually did a Roger Miller tune! You can round the visit out by roasting marshmallows over a fire (unless a bear closes off the area which was the case when we were there) and take a nature walk to nearby Salmon Creek Waterfall. 6/5/17 |
